Exterior house walls: This is the time of the year to check for deteriorating bricks and mortar on the exterior of the home. Brick deteriorating is caused by moisture getting behind the brick. The resolution is to find the area where water is entering, and to replace the bad brick. At this time we also suggest checking your exterior siding for damage or rot. Once the siding is penetrated with rot or damage this process will continue until the siding is repaired or replaced.

While reviewing the exterior of the home, be sure to check your home's chimney. We notice more and more the chimneys that are failing. This can first be noticed when small brick pieces are found on the home's roof. This is the same problem as the brick on the exterior walls of the home. Water is getting in behind the brick.

Bring in and clean up bird houses and bird feeders. Clean bird houses by brushing off the dirt and debris. Never wash them. Bird feeders can be washed in warm water and mild soap. Did you know that to attract bluebirds a perch is not needed? Experts recommend facing the opening away from the prevailing winds and facing the opening to the southeast.
