OK, so it’s summertime and you’re probably keeping the doors open to enjoy the sunshine. Right? But maybe you’ve noticed some wear and tear from the harsh winter we just endured. If it’s time to think about a new front door, our friends at Therma-Tru have some tips to help make a decision a little easier. They also have a great online tool to help select a new front door. Read on for more…

While every homeowner wants a great front door to greet their guests, as the investment is made it’s important to also consider:

Maintenance
Wood doors are beautiful, yes, but there are limitations to that beauty. The wood absorbs moisture; it can peel, bubble and bow. Wood doors usually require regular maintenance, too. The other option is a steel door, which can easily be dented and the paint can scratch. The third option is a fiberglass door, which provides the lowest maintenance. These doors have come a long way and there are many options that look like wood, but offer low maintenance and long-lasting look.

Insulation
Us Hoosiers know our summers are hot and winters are cold. It’s important to look for a door with proper insulation. Wood doors are not energy efficient. Touch a wood door the next time you’re around one. If it’s a hot day, you’ll feel warm wood. Steel and fiberglass doors provide the best efficiency for a front door.

Security
As you’re shopping inquire about and check the locks on the door to be sure it will keep you and your family safe.

Replacing a front door not only provides a great new look for your home, but also more efficiency for your heating a cooling system. For more information visit Therma-Tru Doors or check out this Qualified Remoder story.

From tomatoes to Apple… We told you a few months ago about how Steve ended up talking to the marketing team at Apple about how the SGR team uses iPads for productivity, communications and efficiency. Here’s how the story continues. Steve has a featured quote on the national Apple iPad website in the Notable Notes business page. Take a peek. We think it’s pretty cool!
